14. LIFE BELOW WATER
ANTTI TENETZ
Working Title: Fish God - Sanctuary
INTENTION
ARTISTIC INVESTIGATION

Sculpture is symbolic and informative place of experience and knowledge. Soten and wood statues of  fishing gods where erected to shorelines of northern seaside in Northern Atlantic and Baltic Sea for place of worship for fortune of fishermen but also for pointing territorial or aquatorial knowledge and ownership of good fishing spots to other members of community as to presence and ownership to outsiders.

Could this thinking be transformed to contemporary society covering also goal 14  aims as artistic  project with local community. Sculpture and sea spot as art place with sustainable approach to life underwater and our relation to sea and life in it as companion, food and base for materials bound to tradition of over generational and contemporary knowledge in times of environmental changes and raising sea level. Challenge is to connect this underwater structure to local community, land and sculpture park.

Course of action

  • Level one / the art object itself

  • Level two / navigation element for another underwater part

  • Level three / intangible, reality realization with audio and video / 3D element

  • Opens via a QR code or geolocation

    • Object 1 Fish / Part of seaweed / seaweed modified with computer learning models (how a computer intercepts local underwater life.)

    • Object 2 / Path to coastal structure

    • Object 3 / Audio file and stories from the locals about the changes in the sea and how they survived.

Sculpture structure at sea providing place for kelp/seaweed to grow and shelter for fishes and for humans to visit and fish. Structure based on Voronoi pattern.

Goal

My proposal is to approach subject trough life on water ranging elements from seaweed to fish populations and humans inside framework of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water. Us human being and part and altering of biosphere merging to techno’ sphere with other than human lifeforms. Changing migration patterns for example of birds and sea life and reflect that to human migration patterns now during time of climate crises.

Seeing through everyday politics and discourse with local community to heart of change in order to understand and concretizes new questions and approaches towards possible futures. Form is traditional sculpture and  combination of object, biological and immaterial like augmented reality element and mediated fitting to subject partly at park and near by sea and partly at internet.
